§108.103. Equipment not required on a unit.
46 C.F.R. § 108.103
Each item of lifesaving and firefighting equipment carried on board the unit in addition to equipment of the type required under this subchapter, must—
Be approved; or
Be acceptable to the cognizant OCMI, for use on the unit.
Use of non-approved fire detection systems may be acceptable as excess equipment, provided that—
Components are listed and labeled by an independent, nationally recognized testing laboratory as set forth in 29 CFR 1910.7, and are designed, installed, tested, and maintained in accordance with an appropriate industry standard and the manufacturer's specific guidance;
Installation conforms to the requirements of subchapter J of this chapter, including the hazardous location electrical installation regulations in § 111.105 of this chapter; and
Coast Guard plan review is completed for wiring plans.
