§50.1. What is the purpose of this part?
43 C.F.R. § 50.1
This part sets forth the Department's administrative procedure and criteria for reestablishing a formal government-to-government relationship between the United States and the Native Hawaiian community that will allow:
The Native Hawaiian community to more effectively exercise its inherent sovereignty and self-determination; and
The United States to more effectively implement and administer—
The special political and trust relationship that exists between the United States and the Native Hawaiian community, as recognized by Congress; and
The Federal programs, services, and benefits that Congress created specifically for the Native Hawaiian community (see, e.g., 12 U.S.C. 1715z-13b; 20 U.S.C. 80q et seq.; 20 U.S.C. 7511 et seq.; 25 U.S.C. 3001 et seq.; 25 U.S.C. 4221 et seq.; 42 U.S.C. 2991 et seq.; 42 U.S.C. 3057g et seq.; 42 U.S.C. 11701 et seq.; 54 U.S.C. 302706).
