A BILL
To amend the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize a sickle cell disease prevention and treatment demonstration program.
Sec. 2 Sickle cell disease prevention and treatment
in paragraph (1)(A)(iii), by striking “prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease” and inserting “treatment of sickle cell disease and the prevention and treatment of complications of sickle cell disease”;
in paragraph (2)(D), by striking “prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease” and inserting “treatment of sickle cell disease and the prevention and treatment of complications of sickle cell disease”;
in paragraph (3)—
in subparagraph (A), by striking “enter into a contract with” and inserting “make a grant to, or enter into a contract or cooperative agreement with,”; and
in subparagraph (B), in each of clauses (ii) and (iii), by striking “prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease” and inserting “treatment of sickle cell disease and the prevention and treatment of complications of sickle cell disease”; and
in paragraph (6), by striking “$4,455,000 for each of fiscal years 2019 through 2023” and inserting “$8,205,000 for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2029”.
Sense of Congress— It is the sense of Congress that further research should be undertaken to expand the understanding of the causes of, and to find cures for, heritable blood disorders, including sickle cell disease.
