Blue Star Mothers Day Act

A BILL

To amend chapter 1 of title 36, United States Code, to designate February 1 of each year as Blue Star Mothers Day.

Section 1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the “Blue Star Mothers Day Act”.

Sec. 2 Findings

Congress finds the following:
(1)
On February 1, 1942, mothers of members of the Armed Forces gathered in Flint, Michigan, marking the founding of what would become Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc.
(2)
Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., was chartered by Congress under the Act entitled “An Act for the incorporation of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc.” (Public Law 86–653; 74 Stat. 515) in recognition of its role in supporting military families and promoting patriotic service.
(3)
Blue Star Mothers make significant sacrifices while supporting sons and daughters serving in the Armed Forces.
(4)
Through volunteer service and support for servicemembers, veterans, and military families, Blue Star Mothers continue to strengthen military communities across the United States.

Sec. 3 Blue Star Mothers Day

(a)
In general— Chapter 1 of title 36, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:

“149. Blue Star Mothers Day

“(a) Designation—February 1 is Blue Star Mothers Day.

“(b) Recognition—All private citizens, organizations, and Federal, State, and local governmental and legislative entities are encouraged to recognize Blue Star Mothers Day through proclamations, activities, and educational efforts honoring the service, sacrifice, and contributions of Blue Star Mothers.”

Clerical amendments— The table of sections for chapter 1 of title 36, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
