Sunshine for Our Kids Act of 2026
A BILL
To make standard time permanent except in States that elect to observe daylight saving time, and for other purposes.
Sec. 2 Making standard time permanent
“(b) State election To observe daylight saving time
“(1) States in 1 time zone—A State may by law provide that the standard time for such State shall be advanced by 1 hour (either year-round or for a portion of the year, as specified in such law), but only if such law provides that the entire State (including all political subdivisions thereof) shall observe the same standard time.
“(2) States in more than 1 time zone—In the case of a State that has areas within more than 1 time zone, such State may by law provide for—
“(A) the standard time for the entire State to be advanced as described in paragraph (1); or
“(B) the standard time for the entire area of such State lying within any time zone to be advanced by 1 hour (either year-round or for a portion of the year, as specified in such law).
“(3) State defined—In this subsection, the term “State” has the meaning given such term in section 7 of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (15 U.S.C. 267).”
