Section 1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the “Nurses Utilizing Resources for SNAP Education Act of 2023” or the “NURSE Act of 2023”.
Nurses Utilizing Resources for SNAP Education Act of 2023
A BILL
To require the Secretary of Agriculture to provide training materials for the use of health care professionals to inform their patients about the availability of benefits under the supplemental nutrition assistance program, and for other purposes.
Sec. 2 SNAP training materials for health care professionals
Definition of health care professional— In this section, the term “health care professional” means an individual licensed, registered, or certified under Federal or State law to provide health care services.
Training materials— The Secretary of Agriculture shall—
develop and make available materials designed to train health care professionals to inform their patients about the availability of benefits under the supplemental nutrition assistance program established under the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (7 U.S.C. 2011 et seq.); and
perform outreach to hospitals, universities, nursing associations, and similar entities to ensure that health care professionals are aware of the availability of those materials.
Sec. 3 Effective date
This Act shall take effect on January 31, 2023.
