This Act may be cited as the “Smitty Check Act of 2024”.

A BILL
To direct the Secretary of the Army to provide an annual briefing regarding the accountability of an Army commander to ensure the welfare of personnel under the jurisdiction of such commander.
Sec. 2 Annual briefing on the accountability of Army commanders to ensure the welfare of personnel under their jurisdiction
Not later than January 31, 2025, and annually thereafter, the Secretary of the Army shall provide to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives a briefing regarding—
how the Secretary has implemented guidance issued on February 5, 2024, titled “Accountability and Welfare of Soldiers and DA Civilians” that restated and emphasized the policies of the Army regarding the responsibility of commanders to check on the health and welfare of personnel, particularly following an injury or significant medical incident;
whether such implementation includes a penalty for failure to follow such guidance; and
the methods the Secretary uses to ensure that appropriate medical protocols are followed.
