America’s Wildlife Habitat Conservation Act

A BILL

To amend the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act to make supplemental funds available for management of fish and wildlife species of greatest conservation need as determined by State fish and wildlife agencies, and for other purposes.

Section 1 Short title; table of contents

(a)
Short title— This Act may be cited as the “America’s Wildlife Habitat Conservation Act”.
(b)
Table of contents— The table of contents for this Act is as follows:

Sec. 2 Statement of purpose

The purpose of this Act is to extend financial and technical assistance to States, territories, the District of Columbia, and Indian Tribes, including under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act (16 U.S.C. 669 et seq.), for the purpose of restoring habitat on State, Tribal, Federal, and private lands—
(1)
to recover species currently listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.) or under State law; and
(2)
to prevent the need to list species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.) or under State law.

Sec. 3 GAO study

Not later than 5 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study to examine the progress of States, territories, the District of Columbia, and Indian Tribes toward achieving the purpose described in section 2.
