Section 1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the “American Meat Industry Protection Act of 2023”.
American Meat Industry Protection Act of 2023
A BILL
To prohibit the use of Federal funds to support lab-grown meat, and for other purposes.
Sec. 2 No Federal funds supporting lab-grown meat
In general— No Federal funds may be used to support, directly or indirectly, the production, advancement, or enhancement of lab-grown meat, including through—
conducting or supporting research on lab-grown meat;
supporting meatpacking plants, organizations, or groups relating to lab-grown meat; and
excluding from the receipt of any assistance or other benefit under a program administered by the Secretary of Agriculture any farm, ranch, producer, or other entity that produces lab-grown meat.
Lab-Grown meat defined— In this section, the term “lab-grown meat” means meat sourced from cells of animals and artificially produced in a laboratory.
