Mount Rushmore Protection Act

A BILL

To provide that no Federal funds shall be used to alter, change, destroy, or remove, in whole or in part, any name, face, or other feature on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Section 1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the “Mount Rushmore Protection Act”.

Sec. 2 Findings

Congress finds the following:
(1)
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is America’s Shrine of Democracy.
(2)
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial depicts the faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, with the beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Sec. 3 Prohibition on use of Federal funds

No Federal funds shall be used to alter, change, destroy, or remove, in whole or in part, any name, face, or other feature on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Sec. 4 Designation of Mount Rushmore

(a)
In general— The mountain at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, located at N 43° 53.559′ W 103° 28.246′, shall be known and designated as “Mount Rushmore”.
(b)
References— Any reference in any law, map, regulation, order, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the mountain and area described in subsection (a) shall be deemed to be a reference to “Mount Rushmore”.
