New Deal for New Americans Act of 2021

A BILL

To establish the National Office of New Americans, to reduce obstacles to United States citizenship, to support the integration of immigrants into the social, cultural, economic, and civic life of the United States, and for other purposes.

Section 1 Short title; table of contents

(a)
Short title— This Act may be cited as the “New Deal for New Americans Act of 2021”.
(b)
Table of contents— The table of contents for this Act is as follows:

Sec. 2 Definitions

In this Act:
(1)
Immigrant— The term immigrant means an individual who—
(A)
is not a citizen or national of the United States;
(B)
is present in the United States; and
(C)
(i)
is in any status under the immigration laws; or
(ii)
(I)
is not in any status under the immigration laws; and
(II)
intends to resident permanently in the United States.
(2)
Immigration laws— The term immigration laws has the meaning given the term in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)).
(3)
Refugee— The term refugee has the meaning given the term in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)).
