(a)
Authorization— The Secretary of Education may make grants to States, on a competitive basis, to—
(1)
strengthen elementary school and secondary school education in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology;
(2)
retain teachers at the elementary school and secondary school levels in such fields; and
(3)
assist institutions of higher education in educating students enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree in such a field.
(b)
Application— The chief executive of a State seeking a grant under this section shall submit to the Secretary of Education an application at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may reasonably require.
(c)
Authorization of appropriations— There is authorized to be appropriated $25,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2023 through 2027 to carry out this section.
(d)
Definitions— In this section:
(1)
The terms elementary school, secondary school, and State have the meanings given such terms in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (
20 U.S.C. 7801).
(2)
The term institution of higher education has the meaning given such term in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (
20 U.S.C. 1002).
