Section 1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the “Menopause Research Act of 2022”.
Menopause Research Act of 2022
A BILL
To require the Director of the National Institutes of Health to conduct an evaluation of menopause-related research (including gaps in research and knowledge regarding the causes, symptoms, and treatments for menopause), to develop a strategic plan to resolve gaps in knowledge and research, and identify topics in need of further research relating to potential treatments for menopause-related symptoms, and for other purposes.
Sec. 2 Evaluation of menopause-related research
In general— The Director of the National Institutes of Health shall—
conduct an evaluation of—
the results of completed menopause-related research, and research on mid-life women’s health;
the status of ongoing menopause-related research, and research on mid-life women’s health; and
any gaps in knowledge and research on—
treatments for menopause-related symptoms; and
the safety and effectiveness of treatments for menopause-related symptoms; and
as part of such evaluation, identify the total amount of funding allocated by the National Institutes of Health for the conduct or support of menopause-related research, and research on mid-life women’s health over the preceding 5 fiscal years.
Report; strategic plan— Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the National Institutes of Health shall submit to the Congress—
a report on the findings of such evaluation; and
a strategic plan—
to resolve the gaps in knowledge and research identified in the report; and
to identify topics in need of further research relating to potential treatments for menopause-related symptoms.
Sec. 3 Menopause-related research, and research on mid-life women’s health
In general— The Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Director of the National Institutes of Health, shall conduct or support menopause-related research, and research on mid-life women’s health.
Authorization of appropriations— There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section $100,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2023 and 2024.
