RESOLUTION

Expressing support for designation of April 23 as Barbara Johns Day to highlight the important role Ms. Barbara Rose Johns (Powell) played in the Civil Rights Movement, in Brown v. Board of Education and the desegregation of schools, and her role in the history of the United States and the lives of United States citizens.

That the House of Representatives—
(1)
supports the designation of “Barbara Johns Day” to highlight the important role Ms. Johns played in the lives of United States citizens;
(2)
requests that the President issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe “Barbara Johns Day” with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
(3)
encourages the people of the United States to consider the role and impact of Ms. Johns in the Civil Rights Movement and the role students have had in American history.
