A BILL

To reauthorize appropriations for the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program, and for other purposes.

Section 1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the “Javits Act of 2017”.

Sec. 2 Authorization of Appropriations

Section 705 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1134d) is amended by striking “2009” and inserting “2018”.

Sec. 3 Fellowship awards for music education

The Secretary of Education shall ensure that music education is included among the fields of study for which a fellowship may be awarded under subpart 1 of part A of title VII of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1134 et seq.).
