(b) Notwithstanding section 8106, individuals directed to undergo vocational rehabilitation by the Secretary shall, while undergoing such rehabilitation, receive compensation at the rate provided in sections 8105 and 8110 of this title, less the amount of any earnings received from remunerative employment, other than employment undertaken pursuant to such rehabilitation.

(1) at the rate of 8⅓ percent of his monthly pay if that compensation is payable under section 8105 or 8107(a) of this title; and

(1) The Secretary of State or the head of any other Federal agency may pay an additional monthly monetary benefit, provided that the covered employee is receiving benefits under section 8105 or 8106 of title 5, and may determine the amount of each monthly monetary benefit amount by taking into account—(A) the severity of the qualifying injury;(B) the circumstances by which the covered employee became injured; and(C) the seniority of the covered employee, particularly for purposes of compensating for lost career growth.

(1) The Director may increase the amount of monthly compensation paid to a covered employee under section 8105 of title 5. Subject to paragraph (2), the Director may determine the amount of each such increase by taking into account—(A) the severity of the qualifying injury;(B) the circumstances by which the covered employee became injured; and(C) the seniority of the covered employee.
