Sec. 501 Duties of the Attorney General
In general— The Attorney General shall—
establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse to collect, investigate, analyze, and disseminate data and information relating to the causes and prevention of death and injury associated with firearms;
conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries;
collect and maintain current production and sales figures for each licensed manufacturer; and
conduct a study on the efficacy of firearms that incorporate technology that prevents the use of those firearms by unauthorized users (commonly known as “smart guns”), in the prevention of unintended firearm deaths.
Availability of information— Periodically, but not less frequently than annually, the Attorney General shall submit to Congress and make available to the public a report on the activities and findings of the Attorney General under subsection (a).
