# §8318. Veterinary training


The [Secretary](/usc/7/8302.md?p=14) of Agriculture may develop a program to maintain in all regions of the [United States](/usc/7/8302.md?p=17) a sufficient number of Federal and [State](/usc/7/8302.md?p=15) veterinarians and veterinary teams, including those based at colleges of veterinary medicine, who are well trained in recognition and diagnosis of exotic and endemic [animal](/usc/7/8302.md?p=1) [diseases](/usc/7/8302.md?p=3) and who are capable of providing effective services before, during, and after emergencies.
