# §7487. Enforcement

- (a) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/7/7482.md?p=14) may issue an enforcement [order](/usc/7/7482.md?p=7) to restrain or prevent any [person](/usc/7/7482.md?p=8) from violating an [order](/usc/7/7482.md?p=7) or regulation issued under this subchapter and may assess a civil penalty of not more than $1,000 for each violation of the enforcement [order](/usc/7/7482.md?p=7), after an opportunity for an administrative hearing, if the [Secretary](/usc/7/7482.md?p=14) determines that the administration and enforcement of the [order](/usc/7/7482.md?p=7) and this subchapter would be adequately served by such a procedure.
- (b) **Jurisdiction—** The district courts of the [United States](/usc/7/7482.md?p=16) are vested with jurisdiction specifically to enforce, and to prevent and restrain any [person](/usc/7/7482.md?p=8) from violating, an [order](/usc/7/7482.md?p=7) or regulation issued under this subchapter.
- (c) **Referral to Attorney General—** A civil action authorized to be brought under this section shall be referred to the Attorney General for appropriate action.
