# §62. Definitions


Wherever used in this chapter, (a) the word “[person](/usc/7/499a.md?p=b-1)” imports the plural or the singular, as the case demands, and includes an individual, a partnership, a corporation, or two or more [persons](/usc/7/499a.md?p=b-1) having a joint or common interest; (b) the word “commerce” means commerce between any [State](/usc/7/198.md?p=5) or the District of Columbia and any place outside thereof, or between points within the same [State](/usc/7/198.md?p=5) or the District of Columbia but through any place outside thereof, or within the District of Columbia; and (c) the word “cotton” means cotton of any variety produced within the continental United States, including linters.
