# §584. Exemptions

- (a) **In general—** [Apples](/usc/7/589.md?p=4) in less than carload lots as defined by the [Secretary](/usc/7/499a.md?p=b-2) may, in his discretion, be shipped to any foreign country without complying with the provisions of this chapter.
- (b) **Bulk containers—** [Apples](/usc/7/589.md?p=4) may be shipped to Canada in [bulk containers](/usc/7/589.md?p=5) without complying with the provisions of this chapter.
