# §822. Assessment of global catastrophic risk

- (a) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) and the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) shall coordinate an assessment of [global catastrophic risk](/usc/6/821.md?p=6).
- (b) **Coordination—** When coordinating the assessment under [subsection (a)](#a), the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) and the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) shall coordinate with senior designees of—
  - (1) the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs;
  - (2) the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the Office of Science and Technology Policy;
  - (3) the Secretary of State and the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security;
  - (4) the Attorney General and the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation;
  - (5) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Energy, the Under [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Energy for Nuclear Security, and the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of Science;
  - (6) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Health and Human Services, the Assistant [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) for Preparedness and Response, and the Assistant [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Global Affairs;
  - (7) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Commerce, the Under [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, and the Under [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Commerce for Standards and Technology;
  - (8) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of the Interior and the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the [United States](/usc/6/101.md?p=19-A) Geological Survey;
  - (9) the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) of the Environmental Protection [Agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) and the Assistant [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) for Water;
  - (10) the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration;
  - (11) the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the National Science Foundation;
  - (12) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of the Treasury;
  - (13) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Defense, the Assistant [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of the Army for Civil Works, and the Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the Army Corps of Engineers;
  - (14) the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff;
  - (15) the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) of the [United States](/usc/6/101.md?p=19-A) [Agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) for International Development;
  - (16) the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) of Transportation; and
  - (17) other stakeholders the [Secretary](/usc/6/821.md?p=11) and the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1) determine appropriate.
