# §743. National preparedness goal

- (a) **Establishment—** The President, acting through the [Administrator](/usc/6/821.md?p=1), shall complete, revise, and update, as necessary, a [national preparedness goal](/usc/6/741.md?p=5) that defines the target level of preparedness to ensure the Nation’s ability to prevent, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against natural disasters, acts of [terrorism](/usc/6/101.md?p=18), and other man-made disasters.
- (b) **National Incident Management System and National Response Plan—** The [national preparedness goal](/usc/6/741.md?p=5), to the greatest extent practicable, shall be consistent with the [National Incident Management System](/usc/6/701.md?p=12) and the [National Response Plan](/usc/6/701.md?p=13).
