# §494. Other functions and activities


For the purpose of more effectively coordinating the policies and [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9) of the [United States](/usc/6/101.md?p=19-A) Government relating to [homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) security, the [Council](/usc/6/681.md?p=2) shall—

- (1) assess the objectives, commitments, and risks of the [United States](/usc/6/101.md?p=19-A) in the interest of [homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) security and to[^1] make resulting recommendations to the President;
- (2) oversee and review [homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) security policies of the Federal Government and to[^1] make resulting recommendations to the President; and
- (3) perform such other [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9) as the President may direct.
