# §488g. Preemption of other laws

- (a) **Other Federal regulations—** Except as provided in [section 488f of this title](/usc/6/488f.md), nothing in this part affects any regulation issued by any [agency](/usc/6/311.md?p=2) other than an [agency](/usc/6/311.md?p=2) of the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5).
- (b) **State law—** Subject to [section 488f of this title](/usc/6/488f.md), this part preempts the laws of any [State](/usc/6/101.md?p=17) to the extent that such laws are inconsistent with this part, except that this part shall not preempt any [State](/usc/6/101.md?p=17) law that provides additional protection against the acquisition of [ammonium nitrate](/usc/6/488.md?p=1) by terrorists or the use of [ammonium nitrate](/usc/6/488.md?p=1) in explosives in acts of [terrorism](/usc/6/101.md?p=18) or for other illicit purposes, as determined by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16).
