# §488d. Theft reporting requirement


Any person who is required to comply with [section 488a(e) of this title](/usc/6/488a.md?p=e) who has knowledge of the theft or unexplained [loss](/usc/6/444.md?p=5) of [ammonium nitrate](/usc/6/488.md?p=1) shall report such theft or [loss](/usc/6/444.md?p=5) to the appropriate Federal law enforcement authorities not later than 1 calendar day of the date on which the person becomes aware of such theft or [loss](/usc/6/444.md?p=5). Upon receipt of such report, the relevant Federal authorities shall inform [State](/usc/6/101.md?p=17), local, and tribal law enforcement [entities](/usc/6/301c.md?p=2), as appropriate.
