# §255. Report on improving enforcement functions

- (a) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16), not later than 1 year after being sworn into office, shall submit to the Committees on Appropriations and the Judiciary of the House of Representatives and of the Senate a report with a plan detailing how the Bureau of Border Security, after the transfer of [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9) specified under [section 251 of this title](/usc/6/251.md) takes effect, will enforce comprehensively, effectively, and fairly all the enforcement provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act ([8 U.S.C. 1101](/usc/8/1101.md) et seq.) relating to such [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9).
- (b) **Consultation—** In carrying out [subsection (a)](#a), the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of [Homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) Security shall consult with the Attorney General, the Secretary of State, the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of the Treasury, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of Labor, the Commissioner of Social Security, the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, and the heads of [State](/usc/6/101.md?p=17) and local law enforcement [agencies](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) to determine how to most effectively conduct enforcement operations.
