# §244. Maritime security capabilities assessments


Not later than 180 days after October 5, 2018, and annually thereafter, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) shall submit to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the Committee on [Homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on [Homeland](/usc/6/101.md?p=1) Security of the House of Representatives, an assessment of the number and type of maritime [assets](/usc/6/101.md?p=3) and the number of [personnel](/usc/6/101.md?p=15) required to increase the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5)’s maritime response rate pursuant to [section 223 of this title](/usc/6/223.md).
