# §235. Coordination of information and information technology

- (a) **Definition of affected agency—** In this section, the term “affected [agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1)” means—
  - (1) the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5);
  - (2) the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) of Agriculture;
  - (3) the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) of Health and Human Services; and
  - (4) any other [department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) or [agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) determined to be appropriate by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16).
- (b) **Coordination—** The [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16), in coordination with the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of Agriculture, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of Health and Human Services, and the head of each other [department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) or [agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) determined to be appropriate by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16), shall ensure that appropriate information (as determined by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16)) concerning inspections of articles that are imported or entered into the [United States](/usc/6/101.md?p=19-A), and are inspected or regulated by 1 or more affected [agencies](/usc/6/671.md?p=1), is timely and efficiently exchanged between the affected [agencies](/usc/6/671.md?p=1).
- (c) **Report and plan—** Not later than 18 months after November 25, 2002, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16), in consultation with the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of Agriculture, the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) of Health and Human Services, and the head of each other [department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) or [agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) determined to be appropriate by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16), shall submit to Congress—
  - (1) a report on the progress made in implementing this section; and
  - (2) a plan to complete implementation of this section.
