# §232. Functions of Administrator of General Services

- (a) **Operation, maintenance, and protection of Federal buildings and grounds—** Nothing in this chapter may be construed to affect the [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9) or authorities of the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) of General Services with respect to the operation, maintenance, and protection of buildings and grounds owned or occupied by the Federal Government and under the jurisdiction, custody, or control of the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1). Except for the law enforcement and related security [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9) transferred under [section 203(3) of this title](/usc/6/203.md?p=3), the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) shall retain all powers, [functions](/usc/6/101.md?p=9), and authorities vested in the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) under [chapter 1](/usc/6/chch1.md), except [section 121(e)(2)(A)](/usc/6/121.md), and chapters [5](/usc/40/chstI/ch5.md) to [11](/usc/40/chstI/ch11.md) of title 40 and other provisions of law that are necessary for the operation, maintenance, and protection of such buildings and grounds.
- (b) **Collection of rents and fees; Federal Buildings Fund—**
  - (1) **Statutory construction—** Nothing in this chapter may be construed—
    - (A) to direct the transfer of, or affect, the authority of the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) of General Services to collect rents and fees, including fees collected for protective services; or
    - (B) to authorize the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) or any other official in the [Department](/usc/6/101.md?p=5) to obligate amounts in the Federal Buildings [Fund](/usc/6/677a.md?p=5) established by [section 592 of title 40](/usc/40/592.md).
  - (2) **Use of transferred amounts—** Any amounts transferred by the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) of General Services to the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) out of rents and fees collected by the [Administrator](/usc/6/701.md?p=1) shall be used by the [Secretary](/usc/6/101.md?p=16) solely for the protection of buildings or grounds owned or occupied by the Federal Government.
