# §1156. Nuclear material and explosive detection technology


The [Secretary](/usc/6/1101.md?p=2), in coordination with the [Director](/usc/6/677a.md?p=3) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the head of each relevant Federal [department](/usc/6/1101.md?p=1) or [agency](/usc/6/671.md?p=1) researching nuclear material detection systems or explosive detection systems, shall research, facilitate, and, to the extent practicable, deploy next generation technologies, including active neutron interrogation, to detect nuclear material and explosives in [transportation](/usc/6/1151.md?p=11) systems and [transportation](/usc/6/1151.md?p=11) facilities.
