# §308603. Authority to make grants

- (a) **In General.—** The [Secretary](/usc/54/308101.md?p=1) may make grants to other Federal agencies, State, local, and Tribal governments, other public entities, educational institutions, [historic](/usc/54/308601.md?p=2) preservation groups, and [private nonprofit organizations](/usc/54/308702.md?p=2) in accordance with this chapter for—
  - (1) the identification of [historic](/usc/54/308601.md?p=2) African-American [burial grounds](/usc/54/308601.md?p=1) that may qualify for the [Program](/usc/54/308601.md?p=3);
  - (2) the preservation and restoration of African-American [burial grounds](/usc/54/308601.md?p=1);
  - (3) the interpretation of African-American [burial grounds](/usc/54/308601.md?p=1); and
  - (4) related research and documentation for [historic](/usc/54/308601.md?p=2) African-American [burial grounds](/usc/54/308601.md?p=1).
- (b) **Funding.—**
  - (1) **In general.—** There is authorized to be appropriated to the [Secretary](/usc/54/308101.md?p=1) to carry out this section $3,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2023 through 2027.
  - (2) **Availability.—** Any amounts made available for a fiscal year under [paragraph (1)](#b-1) that are not used during that fiscal year shall be available for use under this section during any subsequent fiscal year.
