# §51102. Grant authority

- (a) **General Authority.—** To ensure the resiliency of the [space transportation infrastructure](/usc/51/50501.md?p=12) of the [United States](/usc/51/50501.md?p=14), the [Secretary](/usc/51/50301.md?p=5) of Transportation may make [project grants](/usc/51/51101.md?p=4) to [sponsors](/usc/51/51101.md?p=6) as provided in this chapter.
- (b) **Limitations.—** The [Secretary](/usc/51/50301.md?p=5) may make a [project grant](/usc/51/51101.md?p=4) under this chapter only if—
  - (1) at least 10 percent of the total cost of the [project](/usc/51/51101.md?p=3) will be paid by the private sector; and
  - (2) the grant will not be for more than 50 percent of the total cost of the [project](/usc/51/51101.md?p=3).
