# §5761. Foreign language proficiency pay awards for the Federal Bureau of Investigation


The [Director](/usc/5/8401.md?p=8) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation may, under regulations prescribed by the [Director](/usc/5/8401.md?p=8), [pay](/usc/5/7511.md?p=a-4) a cash award of up to 10 percent of [basic pay](/usc/5/8401.md?p=4) to any Bureau [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) who maintains proficiency in a language or languages critical to the mission or who uses one or more foreign languages in the performance of official duties.
