# §5737a. Employees temporarily deployed in contingency operations

- (a) **Definitions.—** For purposes of this section—
  - (1) the term “covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2)” means an individual who—
    - (A) is an [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) of an [Executive agency](/usc/5/6501.md?p=2) or a military [department](/usc/5/10101.md?p=4), excluding a [Government](/usc/5/5701.md?p=5) controlled corporation; and
    - (B) is assigned on a temporary change of station in support of a contingency operation;
  - (2) the term “temporary change of station”, as used with respect to an [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2), means an assignment—
    - (A) from the [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2)’s official duty station to a temporary duty station; and
    - (B) for which such [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) is [eligible](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-3) for expenses under [section 5737](/usc/5/5737.md); and
  - (3) the term “contingency operation” has the meaning given such term by [section 1482a(c) of title 10](/usc/10/1482a.md?p=c).
- (b) **Quarters and Rations.—** The head of an [agency](/usc/5/5701.md?p=1) may provide quarters and rations, without charge, to any covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) of such [agency](/usc/5/5701.md?p=1) during the period of such [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2)’s temporary assignment (as described in [subsection (a)(1)(B)](#a-1-B)).
- (c) **Storage of Motor Vehicle.—** The head of an [agency](/usc/5/5701.md?p=1) may provide for the storage, without charge, or for the reimbursement of the cost of storage, of a motor vehicle that is owned or leased by a covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) of such [agency](/usc/5/5701.md?p=1) (or by a [dependent](/usc/5/8951.md?p=2) of such an [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2)) and that is for the personal use of the covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2). This subsection shall apply—
  - (1) with respect to storage during the period of the [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2)’s temporary assignment (as described in [subsection (a)(1)(B)](#a-1-B)); and
  - (2) in the case of a covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2), with respect to not more than one motor vehicle as of any given time.
- (d) **Relationship to Other Benefits.—** Any benefits under this section shall be in addition to (and not in lieu of) any other benefits for which the covered [employee](/usc/5/5701.md?p=2) is otherwise [eligible](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-3).
