# §5534. Dual employment and pay of Reserves and National Guardsmen


A Reserve of the armed forces or [member](/usc/5/8401.md?p=20) of the National Guard may accept a civilian [office](/usc/5/5402.md?p=3) or [position](/usc/5/5102.md?p=a-3) under the [Government](/usc/5/4101.md?p=3) of the [United States](/usc/5/7103.md?p=a-18) or the [government](/usc/5/4101.md?p=3) of the District of Columbia, and he is entitled to receive the [pay](/usc/5/7511.md?p=a-4) of that [office](/usc/5/5402.md?p=3) or [position](/usc/5/5102.md?p=a-3) in addition to [pay](/usc/5/7511.md?p=a-4) and allowances as a Reserve or [member](/usc/5/8401.md?p=20) of the National Guard.
