# §5407. Nature of payment


Any payment to an [employee](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) under this section shall be part of the [employee](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2)’s [basic pay](/usc/5/8401.md?p=4) for the purposes of subchapter III of [chapter 83](/usc/5/chptIII/sptG/ch83.md), and chapters [84](/usc/5/chptIII/sptG/ch84.md) and [87](/usc/5/chptIII/sptG/ch87.md), and for such other purposes (other than [chapter 75](/usc/5/chptIII/sptF/ch75.md)) as the [Office](/usc/5/5402.md?p=3) shall determine by regulation.
