# §4121. Specific training programs


In consultation with the [Office](/usc/5/5402.md?p=3) of Personnel Management, the head of each [agency](/usc/5/3132.md?p=a-1) shall establish—

- (1) a comprehensive management succession program to provide [training](/usc/5/4101.md?p=4) to [employees](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) to develop managers for the [agency](/usc/5/3132.md?p=a-1); and
- (2) a program to provide [training](/usc/5/4101.md?p=4) to managers on actions, options, and strategies a manager may use in—
  - (A) relating to [employees](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) with unacceptable performance;
  - (B) mentoring [employees](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) and improving [employee](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) performance and productivity; and
  - (C) conducting [employee](/usc/5/4701.md?p=a-2) performance appraisals.
