# §3583. Computations


A computation under this subchapter before [reemployment](/usc/5/3581.md?p=5) is made in the same manner as if the [employee](/usc/5/3581.md?p=2) had received [basic pay](/usc/5/8401.md?p=4), or [basic pay](/usc/5/8401.md?p=4) plus additional [pay](/usc/5/7511.md?p=a-4) in the case of a [Congressional employee](/usc/5/5531.md?p=7), at the rate at which it would have been payable had the [employee](/usc/5/3581.md?p=2) continued in the [position](/usc/5/5102.md?p=a-3) in which he was serving at the time of [transfer](/usc/5/3581.md?p=4).
