# §5504. Model intermodal transportation plans

- (a) **Grants.—** The [Secretary](/usc/49/5102.md?p=11) of Transportation shall make grants to [States](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) to develop model [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) [intermodal transportation](/usc/49/5901.md?p=7) plans that are consistent with the policy set forth in [section 302(e) of this title](/usc/49/302.md?p=e). The model plans shall include systems for collecting data related to [intermodal transportation](/usc/49/5901.md?p=7).
- (b) **Distribution.—** The [Secretary](/usc/49/5102.md?p=11) shall award grants to [States](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) under this section that represent a variety of geographic regions and transportation needs, patterns, and modes.
- (c) **Plan Submission.—** As a condition to a [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) receiving a grant under this section, the [Secretary](/usc/49/5102.md?p=11) shall require that the [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) provide assurances that the [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) will submit to the [Secretary](/usc/49/5102.md?p=11) a [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) [intermodal transportation](/usc/49/5901.md?p=7) plan not later than 18 months after the date of receipt of the grant.
- (d) **Grant Amounts.—** The [Secretary](/usc/49/5102.md?p=11) shall reserve, from amounts deducted under [section 104(a) of title 23](/usc/23/104.md?p=a), $3,000,000 to make grants under this section. The total amount that a [State](/usc/49/5102.md?p=12) may receive in grants under this section may not be more than $500,000.
