# §31316. Limitation on statutory construction


This chapter does not affect the authority of the Secretary of Transportation to regulate [commercial motor vehicle](/usc/49/31301.md?p=4) safety involving [motor vehicles](/usc/49/30102.md?p=a-7) with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 26,001 pounds or a lesser gross vehicle weight rating the Secretary decides is appropriate under [section 31301(4)(A) of this title](/usc/49/31301.md?p=4-A).
