# §55336. Civil penalty


After notice and an opportunity for a hearing, the [Secretary](/usc/46/53101.md?p=8) of Transportation may impose a civil penalty of not more than $1,000,000 on the owner of an [American Great Lakes vessel](/usc/46/55331.md?p=1) for any act for which the designation may be revoked under [section 55335 of this title](/usc/46/55335.md).
