# §914. Office of Women’s Health

- (a) **Establishment—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-6) shall establish within the Office of the [Administrator](/usc/42/4005.md?p=1) of the Health Resources and Services [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10), an office to be known as the Office of Women’s Health. The Office shall be headed by a [director](/usc/42/11851.md?p=5) who shall be appointed by the [Administrator](/usc/42/4005.md?p=1).
- (b) **Purpose—** The [Director](/usc/42/11851.md?p=5) of the Office shall—
  - (1) report to the [Administrator](/usc/42/4005.md?p=1) on the current [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10) level of activity regarding women’s health across, where appropriate, age, biological, and sociocultural contexts;
  - (2) establish short-range and long-range goals and objectives within the Health Resources and Services [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10) for women’s health and, as relevant and appropriate, coordinate with other appropriate offices on activities within the [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10) that relate to [health care provider](/usc/42/1320d.md?p=3) training, health service delivery, research, and demonstration [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2), for issues of particular concern to women;
  - (3) identify [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) in women’s health that should be conducted or supported by the bureaus of the [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10);
  - (4) consult with health professionals, nongovernmental organizations, consumer organizations, women’s health professionals, and other individuals and groups, as appropriate, on [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10) policy with regard to women; and
  - (5) serve as a member of the Department of Health and Human Services Coordinating Committee on Women’s Health (established under [section 237a(b)(4) of this title](/usc/42/237a.md?p=b-4)).
- (c) **Continued administration of existing programs—** The [Director](/usc/42/11851.md?p=5) of the Office shall assume the authority for the development, implementation, [administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10), and evaluation of any [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) carried out through the Health Resources and Services [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10) relating to women’s health on March 23, 2010.
- (d) **Definitions—** For purposes of this section:
  - (1) **Administration—** The term “[Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10)” means the Health Resources and Services [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10).
  - (2) **Administrator—** The term “[Administrator](/usc/42/4005.md?p=1)” means the [Administrator](/usc/42/4005.md?p=1) of the Health Resources and Services [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10).
  - (3) **Office—** The term “Office” means the Office of Women’s Health established under this section in the [Administration](/usc/42/1301.md?p=a-10).
- (e) **Authorization of appropriations—** For the purpose of carrying out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for each of the [fiscal years](/usc/42/619.md?p=3) 2010 through 2014.
