# §8628a. Technical assistance, training, and compliance reviews

- (a) Of the amounts appropriated under [section 8621(b) of this title](/usc/42/8621.md?p=b) for any fiscal year, not more than $300,000 of such amounts may be reserved by the [Secretary](/usc/42/8622.md?p=9)—
  - (1) to—
    - (A) make grants to [State](/usc/42/8622.md?p=10) and [public agencies](/usc/42/11851.md?p=8) and private [nonprofit](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=3) organizations; or
    - (B) enter into contracts or jointly financed cooperative arrangements or interagency agreements with [States](/usc/42/8622.md?p=10) and [public agencies](/usc/42/11851.md?p=8) (including Federal [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1)) and private [nonprofit](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=3) organizations;

    to provide for training and technical assistance related to the purposes of this subchapter, including collection and dissemination of information about programs and [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) assisted under this subchapter, and ongoing matters of regional or national significance that the [Secretary](/usc/42/8622.md?p=9) finds would assist in the more effective provision of services under this subchapter; or

  - (2) to conduct onsite compliance reviews of programs supported under this subchapter.
- (b) No provision of this section shall be construed to prevent the [Secretary](/usc/42/8622.md?p=9) from making a grant pursuant to [subsection (a)](#a) to one or more private [nonprofit](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=3) organizations that apply jointly with a business concern to receive such grant.

Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 105–285, § 309(a), substituted “$300,000” for “$250,000” in introductory provisions, designated existing provisions as par. (1) and inserted “to—”, redesignated former par. (1) as subpar. (A), realigned margin, and substituted “make grants” for “to make grants”, redesignated former par. (2) as subpar.
