# §8457. Use of petroleum and natural gas in combustors

The [Secretary](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-1) shall conduct a detailed study of the uses of [petroleum](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-4) and [natural gas](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-3-A) as a [primary energy source](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-15) for combustors and [installations](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-10-A) not subject to the prohibitions of this chapter. In conducting such study, the [Secretary](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-1) shall—

- (1) identify those categories of [major fuel-burning installations](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-10-A) in which the substitution of [coal](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-5) or other [alternate fuels](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-6) for [petroleum](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-4) and [natural gas](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-3-A) is economically and technically feasible, and
- (2) determine the estimated savings of [natural gas](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-3-A) and [petroleum](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-4) expected from such substitution.

Within 1 year after the effective date of this chapter, the [Secretary](/usc/42/8302.md?p=a-1) shall submit a detailed report on the results of such study to the Congress, together with any recommendations for legislation he may consider appropriate.
