# §7921. Public participation; public hearings


In carrying out the provisions of this subchapter, including the designation of [processing sites](/usc/42/7911.md?p=6), establishing priorities for such sites, the selection of remedial actions, and the execution of cooperative agreements, the [Secretary](/usc/42/7911.md?p=1), the [Administrator](/usc/42/7911.md?p=3), and the [Commission](/usc/42/7911.md?p=2) shall encourage public participation and, where appropriate, the [Secretary](/usc/42/7911.md?p=1) shall hold public hearings relative to such matters in the [States](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=14) where [processing sites](/usc/42/7911.md?p=6) and [disposal](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=7) sites are located.
