# §6702. Direct grants; Federal share

- (a) The [Secretary](/usc/42/6701.md?p=1) is authorized to make grants to any [State](/usc/42/6701.md?p=2) or [local government](/usc/42/6701.md?p=3) for [construction](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=7) (including demolition and other site preparation activities), renovation, repair, or other improvement of local [public works projects](/usc/42/6701.md?p=4) including but not limited to those [public works projects](/usc/42/6701.md?p=4) of [State](/usc/42/6701.md?p=2) and [local governments](/usc/42/6701.md?p=3) for which Federal financial assistance is authorized under provisions of law other than this chapter. In addition the [Secretary](/usc/42/6701.md?p=1) is authorized to make grants to any [State](/usc/42/6701.md?p=2) or [local government](/usc/42/6701.md?p=3) for the completion of plans, specifications, and estimates for local [public works projects](/usc/42/6701.md?p=4) where either architectural design or preliminary engineering or related planning has already been undertaken and where additional architectural and engineering work or related planning is required to permit [construction](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=7) of the [project](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) under this chapter.
- (b) The Federal share of any [project](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) for which a grant is made under this section shall be 100 per centum of the cost of the [project](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2).
