# §5196d. Use of funds to prepare for and respond to hazards


Funds made available to the [States](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-9) under this subchapter may be used by the [States](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-9) for the purposes of preparing for [hazards](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-1) and providing [emergency](/usc/42/5122.md?p=1) assistance in response to [hazards](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-1). Regulations prescribed to carry out this section shall authorize the use of [emergency preparedness](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-3) personnel, [materials](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-5), and [facilities](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-6) supported in whole or in part through contributions under this subchapter for [emergency preparedness](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-3) activities and measures related to [hazards](/usc/42/5195a.md?p=a-1).
