# §3032i. Demonstration and support projects for legal assistance for older individuals

- (a) **Program authorized—** The [Assistant Secretary](/usc/42/3002.md?p=7) shall make grants and enter into contracts, in order to—
  - (1) provide a national [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) support system (operated by one or more grantees or contractors) of activities to [State](/usc/42/3002.md?p=51) and area [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1) on aging for providing, developing, or supporting [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) for [older individuals](/usc/42/3002.md?p=40), including—
    - (A) case consultations;
    - (B) training;
    - (C) provision of substantive legal advice and assistance; and
    - (D) assistance in the design, implementation, and [administration](/usc/42/3002.md?p=2) of [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) delivery systems to local providers of [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) for [older individuals](/usc/42/3002.md?p=40); and
  - (2) support demonstration [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) to expand or improve the delivery of [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) to [older individuals](/usc/42/3002.md?p=40) with social or economic needs.
- (b) **Assurances—** Any grants or contracts made under [subsection (a)(2)](#a-2) shall contain assurances that the requirements of [section 3027(a)(11) of this title](/usc/42/3027.md?p=a-11) are met.
- (c) **Assistance—** To carry out [subsection (a)(1)](#a-1), the [Assistant Secretary](/usc/42/3002.md?p=7) shall make grants to or enter into contracts with [nonprofit](/usc/42/3002.md?p=39) organizations experienced in providing support and technical assistance on a nationwide basis to [States](/usc/42/3002.md?p=51), area [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1) on aging, [legal assistance](/usc/42/3002.md?p=33) providers, ombudsmen, [elder abuse](/usc/42/3002.md?p=15) prevention [programs](/usc/42/3056p.md?p=a-7), and other organizations interested in the legal rights of [older individuals](/usc/42/3002.md?p=40).
