# §300b–7. Tourette Syndrome

- (a) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/201.md?p=c) shall develop and implement outreach [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) to educate the public, [health care providers](/usc/42/300aa–33.md?p=1), educators and [community based](/usc/42/11851.md?p=1) organizations about the etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and [treatment](/usc/42/11851.md?p=11) of Tourette Syndrome, with a particular emphasis on children with Tourette Syndrome. Such [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) may be carried out by the [Secretary](/usc/42/201.md?p=c) directly and through awards of grants or contracts to public or [nonprofit](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=3) private entities.
- (b) **Certain activities—** Activities under [subsection (a)](#a) shall include—
  - (1) the production and translation of educational materials, including public [service](/usc/42/201.md?p=a) announcements;
  - (2) the development of training material for [health care providers](/usc/42/300aa–33.md?p=1), educators and [community based](/usc/42/11851.md?p=1) organizations; and
  - (3) outreach efforts directed at the misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis of Tourette Syndrome in children and in minority groups.
- (c) **Authorization of appropriations—** For the purpose of carrying out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 2001 through 2005.
